Binding Arbitration involves a less formal and cost-effective approach to resolving personal property disputes or other limited issues submitted to the arbitrator for determination. Depending on the extent of the issues to be resolved, the arbitration itself can be quite detailed involving valuation of assets, appraisals and a hearing with the arbitrator. Other arbitration proceedings may simply involve submissions of the parties to the arbitrator with a list of assets and agreed-upon values or disputed values for determination by the arbitrator. The cost and the extent of the arbitration is agreed upon between the parties or directed by the arbitrator. The arbitrator will issue a written decision that is binding.
